Collections Development, Training & Volunteering Opportunities

Back in September 2025 we received the news that we had been successful in our application for a CPD Bursary from Museum Development North (MDN) to support our volunteer and staff workforce and look at ways we can develop our collection.
During the week of 15th December, there was lots of activity behind the scenes at the museum as we welcomed Museum Consultant, Helen Giles,  to provide some invaluable training and guidance to our team as part of this funded project.
As well as looking at key areas of our museum collection, Helen delivered a very successful training afternoon which was attended by 6 volunteers and 1 staff member.

The afternoon was a great success, with our team learning about the importance of collections documentation in museums (as well as enjoying some snacks to keep us going). We are now looking forward to getting stuck in on our archive work in 2026. There’s lots to do, and some very interesting objects and images to work through!

Join us! – Part of the work from the funding received is developing a more detailed plan to create projects that volunteers can take on more independently. There may even be opportunities to work remotely on some of these. If you would like to join our team of archive volunteers in the New Year, please do get in touch, either by responding to this post or email us at museum@ravenglass-railway.co.uk
