“Thank you for coming today – the residents loved it”.

In February, a team of staff and volunteers visited Bradbury House care home in Gosforth to deliver a reminiscence activity session to residents there. The session was based on celebrating 150 years of the railway and the museum team had a fabulous afternoon sharing objects and photos and listening to the residents’ own stories.  The afternoon culminated in the creation of this wonderful poem, summing up fond memories of railway journeys;

Memory Train

Excitement and adventure

A family outing – dressed in our Sunday best.

Ladies and gents wearing hats

Packed together in crowded carriages.

The smell of smoke

The rhythm – the sound of the train

We would like to thank residents Ellen, Pat, Doreen, Joan, Florence, John, Dorothy, Judith, Muriel, Tim, Frank for being such a wonderful and engaging audience and staff member Jackie for inviting us.

If you have a group who would like us to deliver a similar activity, please get in touch.
